Recovering..

Hello everyone!

It’s Kattryna. I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted (again). I’m really sorry about that. I’ve been going through quite a bit in the last 4-5months. A lot of bs has happened to me and I’d rather not go into much detail.
Long story short: I’ve finally begun to get the help I should’ve 4 years ago. I’m starting to think much clearer and I’m slowly putting myself back together. I’ve figured out what I ultimately want to do with my life now.

As far as Art goes, I nearly quit a couple of months ago. I hadn’t put pen to paper in almost a year due to major depression. Ideas have just come and gone all year. I didn’t even bother writing them down ‘cause nothing really stuck.
I’ve only just started doodling again. If I manage to draw something I think is worth posting, I will. Otherwise, you can check out my doodles on my FaceBook, InstaGram and Tumblr pages.
Also.. If I owe you any Art, I’m sorry but I cannot get it done. I’m starting a clean slate starting December 1st. I also won’t be accepting any requests or doing any Art Trade with anyone until I’ve finally finished my own personal projects.

I’m going to do my best to update more often as well. I cannot make any promises. For those of you still following me and my pages, I appreciate your patience and support. As usual, it’s greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Until next time, l8r all.

Still Alive..

'Sup, everyone..?

I'm not dead. I apologize for not having updated at all in the past few months. A lot has been happening on my end. A lot of personal, serious things that I'd rather not go into detail about.
In the past few months, I have not had any motivation to draw at all. I barely put pen to paper anymore unless it's for work. The last few doodles I managed to do, I've posted on either my FaceBook page or my Instagram. If you want to check them out, the links are in my Profile Info.

If have been off of work the past couple of weeks. I just returned from a week in the States in an attempt to obtain my Stateside Driver's License. Unfortunately, I failed my Road Test and had a miserable time. Since my return this past Monday, I've just staying with my boyfriend and enjoying my time with him.

Life has been pretty rough for me the past few months. The upcoming month (September) isn't going to be any better for me. To take my mind off of things, I've gotten back into reading books among other things. It's really helped me quite a bit.  Hopefully, I can't get back into drawing again. I've been teetering on the edge of giving it up altogether. Ideas just come and go and never make it to paper.

Otherwise, thank you all for your continued support and patience with me. Thank you new Watchers for watching me. I truly appreciate it. Please don't be disappointed if I don't post anything for a while. In fact, I may not get back into it fully until the beginning of October. We'll see what happens..

Until then, l8r all.

Questions

Hey everybody..

I apologize for not having updated in a while… again. In fact, THIS update was supposed to be posted weeks ago. I just haven't had the time to just sit down and type anymore. I do when I'm at work, but I keep forgetting what the topics were. Ah well. Better late than never, right?

Anywho, I have a few questions for you guys. I'd love your help with these things, so here I go:

1. I'm trying to get back into drawing comics again. I was wondering what the best program out there is for doing this. I've been asking around for the opinions of my favorite Artists and most of them went with Manga Studio, Paint Tool SAI and PhotoShop. A few of them even said they're still Traditional.
My question is: What do you guys think is the best program out there when it comes to drawing comics? What do you recommend I use? Do you think i should do Traditional comics as well as Digital?
Panelling is a big deal for me. So, if you guys have any tips, that'd be a great help.

2. My old PC laptop is just about done for. It's over 4 years old and its basically useless. I've done everything I could to save it: Fix the fan; Clean it; Free a ton of disk space.. It's time is up. Anywho, I've been trying to use my MacBook Pro to draw digitally and that's not working out so well either. For some reason, my pics have been coming out really light (despite how much pressure I use). And, due to the fact that I'm saving up for a trip to the States in August, I won't be able to buy a new laptop for a really long time. So I will have to revert back to using good ol' pen and paper.
My question is: To those of you I owe Art to… would you mind just getting sketches from me? I got myself a set of Faber Castel markers not too long ago and I wouldn't mind coloring them as well. So how about it? Let me know, please.

3. My 3rd question kinda stems from my 1st one. Since my Mac is the only good laptop I have for the time being, I've been using that and drawing with SketchBook Pro. But (as I said before) my pictures have been coming out light. I'm not sure if this is because of the settings I have for my tablet or what, but until I can figure it out: What program do you guys prefer I use? That I can install on my MacBook Pro and is NOT a vector program..

Your input/opinions/suggestions are highly appreciated.
I'd also like to thank everyone for your patience and support. I know it's been a while since I've posted. I truly apologize for that. A lot has been going on the past few weeks, but things are finally starting to wind down… kinda.
Been looking for apartments lately 'cause I'm gonna be moving out of the Dorms soon, so that's gonna keep me offline for a while.
Otherwise, that's all I got for now. Thanks again! Until next time. L8r.

Journal Bump: Dying Tablet

'Sup, everybody?

Here's a random update. I didn't want that [semi] rant up there in everyone's face for too long.. I will give you an update on that situation when I can.

Otherwise, my old Wacom Intuos3 tablet seems to be showing its age lately. If you hadn't noticed, my recent submissions are much lighter than usual. Unfortunately, I won't be able to buy a new tablet anytime soon. I'm saving all the money I can for a trip back to the States in August so I can take my Road Test and obtain my Driver's License (finally).
So any Art I draw from now until I can afford one will be drawn in my sketchbook. If they're decent enough, I'll scan and post them. I apologize for the inconvenience. Please bear with me. ):

Well, that's all I have for now. Until next time, l8r.

I Want to Rant SO Badly Right Now..

But I won't. There's no point. Because, unless ranting can speed up 4 months of time, then I'm gonna be stuck in my current situation.
I can't wait to get my Driver's License, so I can drive my-damn-self around. I can't wait until I'm eligible to move out of the Dorms, so I can [maybe] FINALLY get the space I need to clear my head. So I can finally get some drawing done without feeling fucking guilty about what I draw around certain people.
But, until that time comes, I'll just bite my tongue. 'Cause I'm stuck with… "this"..

.   .   .

I posted this 4 days ago on a different page of mine and I never got around to posting it here. I know.. I know.. It's basically a rant anyway. I honestly couldn't/cannot help that.

I've looked at myself [lately] and I'm very much unhappy with what I've become. I'm an independent female. I do things by myself. Always have. I don't ask for help and I'm too hard-headed and stubborn to accept it.
When I get my Driver's License, I'll be able to do MORE things by myself. As I'd been doing before. I'll be able to drive around when I need to cool off. I'll be able to explore on my own.

I haven't been able to draw lately because of the negative environment I'm currently in. I like to draw in a spacious place. A place where I can relax and draw comfortably. I like to draw when I'm in a good mood, with my music playing after I've read [a bunch of] comics/manga by my favorite Artist(s) and snacks are right within reach. But that is not the case where I am.
My Dorm room is very small and cluttered due to the fact that I have nowhere to put anything. My boyfriend's apartment is… just that. His apartment. Not my own. He only moved in not too long ago, but it's still not comfortable enough a place for me to get any serious drawing done.
I'm looking forward to getting an apartment of my own. I will have plenty of space, my own furniture, my own refrigerator.. My style.

A lot of things have been happening in my life lately that's causing me to be more stressed than I ever have been. Hell, it's even starting to take a toll on me physically.
My new work schedule has made it hard for me to have much free time (despite the fact that I work Nights and I'm not really doing anything anyway). Even on my days off, I don't have the time. Why? Because I'm with my boyfriend or running around back and forth running errands. Before I know it, it's either time for me to go to bed or time to get ready for work.

Lately, I've been feeling that I have no direction in my life. I don't know what I'm doing or what my purpose is. I have no current goals, no motivation and no inspiration whatsoever.
I'm often finding myself thinking back on all the mistakes I've made and the choices I didn't make. Wishing I had have done things differently..

My relationship is one of the things stressing me out as well. But I'm not even going to get into that right now because that is a whole other story/topic and I'm trying NOT to think about all that mess.

Anyway, I need space to clear my head, get things done and figure out what direction I'm going in. Because, right now, I'm stuck… and it's making me depressed/miserable.
I will also attempt to catch up with my drawing. I just need to find the right positive environment.

Thank you guys for taking the time to read this (if you did). Until next time. L8r.

Failure and Disappointment

Hey everyone. Just a quick update for you all..

The project I was working on for my job didn't go so well. In fact, it was a complete failure.
Before I go into any details, let me explain the project. My task was to create a T-Shirt design for the annual "Viking Challenge" that's held in my area.

Now for the problems:
1. I wasn't given enough time to complete it. I had to hand in my sketches by March 20th. I did. Despite the fact that it was completely last minute for me. I was all ready to create a finished product off of the design I'd handed in. I just had to wait for the Board to approve my sketches. It took forever for [the guy who requested I do this] to get back to me on their decision. This goes into problem #2.
2. When he got back to me, he told me that the Board liked it but still wanted me to change one thing. I'd originally drawn a Minotaur character. They wanted me to make it Human. Yeah, about that: I'm no good drawing Humans. This is sad, but very true. I can't draw a character that DOESN'T have animal characteristics. That's just what I'm used to. I apologize if that's any inconvenience. Knowing this led me into problem #3.
3. This "change" wasn't just something I could do overnight. The initial design didn't fit "Human". So I basically had to change it again. Once again, I wasn't given enough time to complete this task. By the time he'd gotten back to me, I had to switch my work shift from Days to Nights. My schedule was thrown completely off. He wanted me to complete it by Monday and I had a bunch of other things I had on my plate.
Okay, that's not really the 3rd problem. My problem was the fact that he sent out a mass e-mail about this project to EVERYONE. Meanwhile, he really hand picked me specifically to do the job. It's not that I wasn't honored, but come on! Extremely short deadline + something I'm not used to drawing + 12-hour shifts (where I have maybe 4 hours a day to myself) = Seriously??
What really bothered me was the fact that I was the ONLY one doing this. What if I didn't come up with anything in the first place? Then what? You had absolutely nothing to fall back on.

Anyway, I wound up giving up in the end. That's where the disappointment comes in. I am extremely disappointed in myself. I am an Artist. I'm supposed to learn all I can when it comes to drawing. Still life, Human anatomy, Landscape and using different mediums. Instead, I got comfortable in this lil' niche and that's where I want to stay..
Ever since I gave up on that project, I've been feeling really down. I have ad absolutely no motivation to draw anything. Not even to doodle. I'm trying to get out of that slump so I can start working on all the Requests and Art Trades I owe.
I want your opinions. All of you. What do you think I should do?

Advertising (Instagram & Tumblr)

Hey everyone! I got another update for you all. :D

I just want to let you all know that I've hopped on the bandwagon and joined Instagram. If you want, you can follow me as 'boredkomix'.
I think it's pretty neat so far. I'll be using it to post pics of all the random sketches I do in random places on random surfaces. I have an example there already.

I also wanted to let you know that I've created a Tumblr account as well. You can follow me here. :3
Where this page will be used to post sketches (both traditional and digital) from my sketchbook as well as updates… Tumblr will be used to post my Instagram pics as well as finished digital drawings. I will also be promoting my friends Art pages here. Recommending people you should definitely check out and what not..
Just a heads up though: Being that I'm currently living in Germany, the site is in German. So until I can figure out how to change that, it will be a while before I update. Could you guys help me out? ^^; I'd really appreciate it. I'll let you guys know when I have it fixed and what not..

I'd like to point out that a friend of mine is in need of some help. My buddy, Adrian Nelson is trying to raise money for his comic, "B.A.D.A.S.S." and he needs your help.
For more information, please go here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/adriannelson/badass-comic-project
Please donate or help spread the word. Anything you can do would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! :D

One last thing: I've been chosen to work on a T-Shirt design for a marathon-fundraiser thingy being held at work. I know I still owe many of you character sketches (and Art Trades. No, I haven't forgotten), but (being that I'm the only one who submitted sketches for it) I'm the only one on the job and it's due soon.
When this is over, I'll start working on stuff I owe as well as sketches for my Blogs and other pages. I want to make them nice an' pretteh. :P

That's all I have for today, folks! Thank you all for your support and patience.
Until next time, L8r!

Change of Plans... Again

Hey everyone.

Due to recent events, I will not be buying my new tablet this month.
Instead, I will be saving my money over the next few months for an important trip in June.
I will continue using my old Intuos3 in the meantime so that I can keep posting at least.

I'm sorry for the delay in posting. A lot has been happening lately.
Personal issues have seriously gotten in the way and I'm sorting them out the best I can.
I will not go into details here.

Otherwise, I hope you enjoyed the sketches I've posted here.
There'll be more to come. Hopefully more digital than traditional.
Until then, l8r.

Das Wein Ist Gud! Ja?

Went to a Wine Tasting with my Shop and my beloved on his birthday 10 days ago.
I drew this on the back of the paper our host gave to us to write down the names of our favorite wines.
The top character is her. She said "Ja" a LOT. :P
The second one was based off a random song I had in my head. I had a lot of wine in my system at that point. ^^;

Korean Restaurant Sketches

I'm only going to post the mobile sketches here.
I drew these a couple of days ago at a Korean restaurant.
The lady put a large paper down on the table like a mat and the first thing I thought of was "I get to draw!? 8D" So I drew a few doodles of Kittryna..

A doodle of Kittryna I drew with a "bullet pen" at a Korean restaurant a couple of days ago.
The pen sucked. Never again..

Another pic of Kittryna I drew with a Uni-Ball: JetStream pen. I LOVE that pen. ♥

 Yei, beef bulgogi! :3

Sketchbook Couples

Couple Sketches! :D

Iggy Coinin with Kittryna Asner riding piggy back.
10c1 and 2 are just attempts that may not work. I'll keep trying..

 More couple pics. :3
10d and 11 feature Iggy and Kitt. 12 features Makai and Shina.

I let my friend, Iggy, listen to "Feel So Close" by Calvin Harris. He liked it very much and requested a pic. He said he pictured Iggy and Kitt in the rain, so here's a few sketches I came up with.
He really liked #2. I really liked #1. I think I'll do both. :3

Cuddle pics! #1 features Kittryna and Iggy. #'s 2 and 3 features Shina and Makai. I love mah lil' Boneless Keetie. ♥

Sketchbook Sketches

Here are some concept sketches for some poses I have in mind to draw. I had a really long shift at work one day last month and I had some motivation to draw. So I drew quite a bunch. Enjoy! :3

The ones above are of my character, BoKo Puchiro.

Number 7 is Kattryna Maxxwel. I look forward to drawing that one.
Number 8 is Makai Ritsuko holding Shina DeGalo. Gotta work on that one..

Here's the "completed" sketch of #5. I'd decided to use Shina instead of BoKo. It just fit her much better.

Sketches of my characters, Kittryna Asner and Shina DeGalo. I'd decided to use a different style when drawing their legs. Really trying to get this whole "Anthro" thing down.
I also changed the markings on Kitt. She's more of a Puma now..

Avatar and ID Sketches

Here are some concept sketches for my new avatars and IDs I'm trying to create for my various Art pages:

Coming Soon (and Another Question)..

Hey guys!

I just wanted to let you all know that I will be ordering the new Wacom Intuos5 tablet next week. So I won't be doing any major drawing until I receive it. In the meantime, I will most likely be posting all the sketches I've done from my Sketchbook here.
I'm also preparing for the big "Timeline" changeover on FaceBook. I want my profile and my page to look decent when they finally push the new layout on us users.. The sketches I post will have concept designs of my background, new avatar and ID(s). So stay tuned! :D

Oh, one more question:
Can anyone tell me how to edit the Journal Skins on DA to the way I want them (using my art and whatnot)..? I'm tired of my page looking so... bland.
Keep an eye out for posts of all my sketches. I'll also be posting them on my FaceBook page. Please show your support. It'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

~ Katt

Apology and Question(s)..

Hey all,

I would like to apologize for not having updated in a while. I have not had any time to myself to do so since I last updated.
I've been sketching in my sketchbook like crazy, but I haven't been able to actually draw with my tablet.
The past month has been extremely stressful what with my relationship and my work schedule changing... all my time has been divided to everything but my Artwork. I will try to post something as soon as I can. Hopefully this new work schedule will allow me the time I need to pick things up again.

I do have a [few] question(s) though..
I've found out that this "Nabyn" site is [so far] invite only. I've also heard that it's a pretty good site. SO! What I want to know is: 1. What do you guys think? ..And 2. Who's willing to invite me? :P
Also, I've just grasped the importance of the site called LinkedIn. I want to know your opinions. Is my Art worthy enough for me to even bother making an account? Please, let me know.

Otherwise, I will do my best to update again soon. I will not let another month go by without a word.
To all those who are still watching: Thank you guys for your patience and support. I truly appreciate it.
So, until next time, l8r!

SOPA/PIPA: Help Say "Nay" (Important)

Hey everyone..
I thought I should post something about this SOPA business since there's been a lot of commotion about it lately.

First, I just want to say that I knew nothing about SOPA before this year began. What first brought it to my attention was a YouTube video that was embedded on Pirate Bay's main page. Here's the original video: SOPA Cabana It was a good song, but that was about it. I thought nothing more of it. I didn't know how big this thing was.
It came up again very briefly last week during work. I was doing some research (don't remember what for now) and looked something up on Wikipedia. At the top of the page was a black bar with white lettering saying something about a "blackout". I didn't get to read anymore into it at all because I was busy.
I had no idea it had anything to do with SOPA until today. This morning, after reading Girls with Slingshots latest comic, I noticed Danielle Corsetto's latest blog entry. Once again, mentioning SOPA. So, not liking the fact that I'm clueless about this situation, I decided to so some research.

SOPA (also known as House Bill 3261) is a bill that will allow the U.S. Department of Justice (as well as copyright holders) to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. It could include:
1.Barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators from doing business with the allegedly infringing website.
2. Barring search engines from linking to such sites.
3. Requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites.
...depending on who makes the request.
The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a crime. Giving you a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison (for 10 such infringements in 6 months). It would also give immunity to the Internet services that voluntarily take action against websites dedicated to infringement.

PIPA (also known as Senate Bill 968) is a proposed law giving the U.S. government (and copyright holders) additional tools to curb access to "rogue websites dedicated to infringing or counterfeit goods". Especially those registered outside the U.S. It's also basically a re-write of the "Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA)".

In a nutshell, they're basically trying to censor the Internet. And (in a way) make people turn on each other. I mean, this would be a great way to stop people from stealing, reproducing and selling/making a profit from property that isn't theirs. It would also be great if they stated how they were going to go about doing so more specifically. Otherwise, a website could be blocked for simply mentioning someone's name or somebody simply voicing their opinion about something.
This is part of why I don't support the bill. They've left out some important details as well as left their intentions a little too vague. Plus, there's a huge downside to it. Fighting piracy is one thing, but taking down/targeting personal blogs, search engines and social networks is definitely not the way to go about it.
People also use social networks for... well, networking. The passing of this bill could negatively effect people's jobs. The economy already sucks. This will make it (if not significantly) worse.
Not to mention that other websites like YouTube will also be effected if this bill passes..

I'm going to wrap this up before I start rambling. I've already lost my train of thought (had a busy day at work). You can follow everything from beginning to present here: SOPA Initiative

I posted this because I would like you all to help save our Internet rights/privileges. There's plenty you can do. The Senate will begin voting on [Tuesday, January] 24th. Help them say "Nay". Below are some more options. I do hope you take this into consideration.

A. Go to Wikipedia's main page. They're having a "Blackout" (for more information about that, go here: Learn more). From there, you can contact the elected officials in your area and voice your opinion.

B. (I got this from Danielle Corsetto's blog page) 1) Look up your congressperson or senator, and see if he/she supports or opposes.

For SOPA: projects.propublica.org/sopa/
For PIPA: projects.propublica.org/sopa/pipa#roll_call

2) Click the appropriate picture to pull up contact information.

3) Write a handwritten letter describing why you’re unhappy. This is the best way to get their attention.

4) If you don’t have time for that, call their office and politely but firmly express your complaint, specifically mentioning their support for SOPA (house of reps) or PIPA (senate).

C. Go to Google's Petition and sign the petition.

D. (And this is very important) Post about it. In your status messages, tweets, blogs... whatever/however you can. Spread the word. Let everyone know what's going on and what they can do about it. The more the better.

Time is running out. The fate/future of the Internet rests in OUR hands. 'Cause I know damn well, if left up to the government, they'll screw everything up.
Thank you for taking the time to read this entry. I wouldn't mind hearing some feedback. I want to know what you all think about what's happening. How do you think this will effect us (if at all)? What changes do you foresee? Good or bad? Tell me.
Otherwise, until next time.. L8r.

Happy New Year (Big News)

Hey everyone..

As I said, I’m back and I’m glad the Holidays are finally over. They weren’t as bad as I thought they would be. I was upset about the fact that I wasn’t able to spend the Holidays with my beloved.. But I spent my birthday, Christmas and New Years with my dear friend, Iggy. So at least I wasn’t alone.
I hope everyone had a pleasant Holiday as well.

I know you all have noticed I haven’t posted any Art in a while. There are a few reasons for this. One of which I’ve already explained in my previous journal entry/note.

1. Holidays - Long story short: I’m not a Holiday person. Nor am I very motivated to draw during said time. Read my previous journal entry/note for details.
2. Work- Things are finally starting to pick up at work. The more I get used to things, the easier it gets and the busier I become. I’m actually happy about that. As long as I stay busy, the less my mind wanders..
3. . . .

For my third reason, I want everyone to know that I have big news: My comics might be getting published in magazines and newspapers worldwide. :D
It’s a funny story, actually.. On December 29th, I got online early with the mindset to update my pages. My FaceBook page hasn’t been getting much recognition. I decided to put a post up in a Comic-book Artist group I’m in. Just to get it off the ground. I did not expect to get any serious results. Just a comment.. Maybe a ‘like’ or two on my page..
Instead, I caught the eye of someone who was willing to help me out. He took a look at my comics and said my style was good enough to be in magazines and newspapers. Which has always been a dream of mine.
Years ago, I used to read the comics section of the New York “Daily News” newspaper. I stopped reading them because new comics began replacing the old ones and they suck. Lately, people with almost no talent at all have been getting published in newspapers and magazines and I think it’s… stupid (for lack of a better word). To me, the comic section quickly became unappealing.
This person felt the same (thank God, I’m not alone in my opinion). He recommended my work to one of his connections working at “King Features“ for review. After doing some research on it, I seriously got excited. King Features is a syndicate for most of my favorite newspaper comics.
After that, I pretty much spent the rest of my day talking to this person. Figuring out what I had to do and what was going to happen next. I contacted the connection to King Features they gave me. Due to it being the Holidays at the time, I am still waiting for a reply from them. I am very excited about this.

This brings me to the present. I am currently working on getting my characters copyrighted. All of them. I’m not sure I should continue posting during this process. I definitely have to re-read the FaceBook guidelines..
One thing’s for sure, I will definitely be drawing more comics this year. I’m also going to be even more busy. My current list of Character Design Requests and Art Trades hasn’t been forgotten. They will still get done (in fact, I have a couple more to add to that list). I ask that you continue to be patient with me. If all goes well, I’ll become a part-time Freelancer sometime this year. :3

I would like to thank everyone who continues to support me. Especially during my Holiday absence. It is most appreciated. This is definitely going to be a good year for me. I can feel it. It’s the year of the Dragon. This year, I’m makin’ it all about me.

One last thing: I’ve begun playing “World of Warcraft” again recently. I just finished upgrading to “Cataclysm” yesterday. I’m currently playing in the “Bladefist” realm if anyone is interested. Otherwise, that’s all I’ve got for now. I’ll keep you all posted on what’s going on. Hopefully I can manage to post a sketch or two soon as well. So until next time, l8r!
